Massage and Consent Training

 

Many people enjoy giving massages or becoming a masseur or even helping others..

My question is immediately: Why? What are your needs? and motives?

That triggers self-examination which in my experience (20 years of bodyworker) is very important if you want to work with others.

Most massage courses are focused on learning massage strokes and techniques that you practice on each other, but not much attention is paid to the background of your potential clients. I play on that.

Do you want to give sessions, work with people and not be shocked if something different happens than in your practice sessions in your course?

What if people don't want to be touched somewhere or don't want to take off their clothes as you are used to or suddenly become anxious, angry or shut down? What do you actually know about that person and more importantly what does that person need and how do you find out..

Giving massages in consent and intune  with your client is not always a sure thing.. why not? ​

Well, the client and you are two beings with many of the same but perhaps also many different feelings, experiences and needs.

How do you coordinate that? beforehand? during?

That can be done in many ways, but what is important is that as a masseur, as a giver, you are dealing with another person who you want to treat in a 'clean' space.

That means that you have to be 'clean': clean of expectations clean of interpretations clean of your own needs clean of judgments clean of having to or wanting something....

And we are just human and each have our own issues But how do we clean our own space as much as possible before we can 'see' and treat another person in that moment. ​

Another person can also have completely different boundaries, fears, charges, experiences, etc.

Things that can come up or man/woman, man/man woman/woman issues that can come up.

In a setting where you represent the other role in the client's eyes, how do you deal with your client?

 

​ I give practice days 1 on 1 and in small groups max 6 people.

And weekends possibly with massage techniques.
